Academic Programs

Sundance Elementary is a place for learning! Here are some of the academic programs on our campus...

EL: 20% of our students are English language learners. Our EL program supports students as they learn English through specialized instruction and materials. Children move through five levels of proficiency until they are fluent and are then reclassified.

SAI: The Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) Specialist and Instructional Aides provide academic support to students Kindergarten through 5th grade both in and out of their General Education classrooms. Services include: academic evaluation, planning, strategies, support, and progress monitoring. The SAI Specialist, Mrs. Scholte or Miss de la Cruz, collaborates with teachers and parents about their student’s special needs. When qualified, Annual and Tri-ennial (3-year) Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings are held to support learning in the least restrictive environment. For more information about our Specialized Academic Instruction program, contact Olivia de la Cruz at [email protected] or Tiffany Nelson at [email protected] or by calling (951) 845-2621.

Speech: Our on-campus Speech Pathologist provides services to students Kindergarten through 5th grade. Services include: evaluation and screening; planning and implementations of services; reporting; and participation in IEP meetings. For more information about our Speech program, contact Emily Larsen at [email protected] or by calling (951) 845-2621.

Science Fair: During the months of January and February, Sundance's 3rd, 4th and 5th grade future scientists and mathematicians develop exciting and unique science projects. Students get a chance to conduct original experiments within the classroom and at home, while mastering the scientific method. Once all of the science experiments are complete, the students display their science boards for the rest of the school to see. Several Sundance students also enter the District Science Fair in hopes of bringing home a ribbon showcasing their spectacular science skills.

ELAC: Four times a year, Sundance Elementary School has a meeting of the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). This committee, made up of parents and teachers, meets and reviews current best practices in teaching our English Language Learners.

Spelling Bee: Every year Sundance Elementary School's 4th and 5th grade students participate in spelling competitions within their own classrooms. Two top students from each class then go onto participate in Sundance's Annual Spelling Bee. Parents, teachers, and students gather together to cheer on the "spellbound" contestants. The top four triumphant students then find themselves studying and preparing for the District Spelling Bee, in hopes of being Beaumont's master speller.

Yearbook: Sundance Elementary School has a yearbook published every year. A yearbook committee is formed to gather information and photos throughout the school year.

Study Trips: After studying a particular unit (eg. Missions), students have the opportunity to visit off-site locations that reinforce lessons learned in the classroom.
